The Spokane Amateur Softball Association (SASA) is one of many associations in the United States serving teams/players, coaches, and umpires in the sport of Softball.  The Amateur Softball Association (ASA) was formed in 1933 and has remained the official rules writer and interpreter for the sport of softball.  ASA is recognized by the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) as the National Governing Body (NGB) for the sport of softball.  ASA conducts youth and adult softball programs in every state and virtually every city in the United States through a network of state and metro local associations.  Over 245,000 teams and 3.5 million players (83,000 girls' fast pitch teams, 1.2 million girls') play ASA softball each year.  ASA registers over 43,000 umpires each year and is known for one of the best officiating programs of any sport in the U.S.

Thank you for visiting the website of the Spokane Amateur Softball Association (SASA)!

As the SASA Commissioner, I am committed to ensuring that everyone who participates in the sport of softball, at all levels of play, will have a positive experience during this season. Having "fun" is our ultimate goal, along with learning more about the game, improving in whatever your role is on your team, and continuing to develop good sportsmanship.

I am also dedicated in improving our Association to make it more enjoyable for those that participate in our programs and utilize our facilities. I invite you to send comments or feedback – tell us what you like, or what you would like us to change. Knowing what to emphasize or what to fix can only make the SASA stronger.

We want to continue to offer excellent value for your registration fee, as we recognize you have a choice of your free time. We will strive to keep these costs as low as possible and continue to provide a professional program throughout our leagues and Championship play.

To that end, I would like to thank the local organizations and businesses who continue to support our association through sponsorship. Some of these organizations are listed on our sponsor's page, and I encourage you to patronize these establishments. I would also like to thank the City of Spokane, the governmental departments and specifically the Community, who support the SASA and all of its programs.

Of course, our Association could not be successful without volunteers, and I would be remiss if I didn’t take this opportunity to thank parents, family members, and friends who offer their time and give countless hours, to benefit the programs. Volunteering takes many forms – coaching, score-keeping, and/or cheering (encouraging). Your efforts are appreciated more than you will ever know and is what makes the program possible.

Lastly, I would also like to extend special thanks to the SASA Executive and Advisory Board members. These individuals are truly committed and work many uncompensated hours, in making your experience a positive one.

Again thank you for your support and I would like to wish everyone a safe, healthy and fun season!

Fuzzy Buckenberger
SASA Commissioner
